Who we are

Salah Sphere is an app for Android and iPhone. In this policy "Salah Sphere", "we" and "us" mean the publisher of the app. You can reach us at salahsphere@outlook.com.

What stays on your phone

Everything you set or do in the app is stored only on your device:

• your preferences, such as theme, calculation method, reminders and reciter;
• your favourites, learning progress and reading places;
• the place you choose for prayer times;
• recent prayer times for your approximate area (about 1 km, never your exact position), so the app opens quickly. Clearing your location removes them;
• the Qur'an meanings you have downloaded, and recitation you have already played, so they work offline.

None of this is sent to us. Uninstalling the app removes it.

Your location

Location is optional. If you choose to use your device's location, it is used on the phone to calculate prayer times and the Qibla direction. It is never sent to us.

To show the name of your area and suggest a suitable calculation method, the app may use your phone's built-in place lookup, which is provided by Apple or Google under their own privacy policies. If you prefer, you can pick your place from the list built into the app instead, without turning on location at all.

When the app goes online

Salah Sphere works offline for prayer times, the Qibla, Guided Prayer, Guided Wudu and du'as. It connects to the internet only for:

• Qur'an recitation. Recitation audio is streamed from the Islamic Network audio service (cdn.islamic.network), with EveryAyah.com as a back-up. Each ayah is kept on your phone after it first plays.
• Qur'an meanings. The meaning under each ayah is downloaded from QuranEnc.com in the language you choose, kept on your phone, and checked for a newer version about once a week.

As with any web request, these services receive your device's internet (IP) address and the file being asked for, so that they can send it. Nothing else about you is sent: no identifier, no account and no usage information.

Notifications and alarms

Prayer, du'a and Qur'an reminders are scheduled on your phone using its own notification system. Salah Sphere asks for permission only when you switch on a reminder, and you can change it at any time in your phone's settings.

Permissions

• Location: optional, requested only when you choose to use your device's location.
• Notifications: optional, requested when you turn on a reminder.
• Alarms & reminders (Android): optional, lets reminders arrive exactly on time.
• Internet: used only for recitation and the Qur'an meanings, as described above.

Sharing

Content is shared only when you choose to share it, for example with the Share button. It is passed to the app you pick and is then covered by that app's privacy policy.

Backups

If your phone's own backup is switched on, your Salah Sphere settings may be included in it so that they return on a new phone. That backup is held by Google or Apple under your account, not by us.

Purchases

Salah Sphere is free to download with a one-time unlock. Payments are handled entirely by Google Play or the App Store. We never see your card or payment details.

If you contact us

If you email us, we use your email address and message only to reply and to help you. We keep the conversation only as long as we need it to help you, and you can ask us to delete it at any time.

Children

Salah Sphere is suitable for all ages. It does not collect personal information from anyone, including children.

This website

salahsphere.app uses no cookies, no analytics and no tracking, and loads nothing from other websites. It is hosted on GitHub Pages; like any web host, GitHub records visitors' IP addresses for security, as described in GitHub's privacy statement.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law you have rights over your personal information, including to see it, correct it and have it deleted. Because Salah Sphere keeps your information on your own phone, you are in control of it: you can change it in the app, clear your location, or remove everything by uninstalling. For anything you have sent us by email, just ask and we will help.

If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information, please contact us first. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.

Changes to this policy

If anything about how Salah Sphere handles information changes, we will update this page and the date at the top before the change takes effect.

Salah Sphere is designed as a private, respectful worship companion. Your spiritual practice remains between you and Allah.
